Clove Oil Origin and Extraction

Clove Oil is extracted from the leaves of the clove tree, an evergreen tree native to Maluku. The clove tree is also cultivated in Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India and Madagascar. The oil is generated by steam distillation.

Clove Oil Essential Oil Indications/Uses

Historically, Clove Oil’s primary use has been for dental care. It can provide prompt relief of toothache when applied directly to the tooth, and can provide relief from sores in the mouth and gums. Similarly, it relieves pain from wounds when applied topically. Other uses include treatment of skin disorders such as pimples and acne, plus relief from respiratory conditions such as bronchitis or asthma.

Clove Oil is known to boost the immune system, thanks to its antiviral components and its blood-purifying ability.  Also containing antioxidants, this oil rids the body of free radicals that lead conditions such as heart disease and some forms of cancers.

Clove Oil also reduces the effects of stress, stimulates the mind, reduces metal fatigue and combats insomnia.

Clove Oil Contra Indications

Since Clove Oil is quite strong, it should be highly diluted before using. Some individuals may experience an allergic reaction. Clove Oil may cause intestinal discomfort, particularly in children. Diabetics should use with caution and pregnant women and breast feeding women should avoid this substance.

Essential Oils are natural, contracted oils that have the fragrance of the plant from which they originated. Most typically, the oils are extracted from the plant through distillation. In many cases, the distillation process involves the use of steam.  As steam passes through the plant’s stems, seeds, flowers or leaves, it assists in vaporizing the volatile compounds.

While essential oils have various uses, they have a long documented history of medicinal value. Essential Oils can support overall health, act as a treatment or remedy for various medical or psychological conditions or help prevent infections and illness.

Essential Oils should not be used on animals as they can have adverse effects.
